Proactive Management
Proactive management is based on integrated monitoring of the technical IT infrastructures and applications. With proactive management the behavior of the IT infrastructure can be monitored and reported. Anomalies are visualized and based on specific conditions alerts can be send like for example by means of emails, SMS or by phone based voice / response messages. Proactive management is not only to be able to “react” on disruptions but also to predict and timely signal and alert potential issues or bottlenecks in the IT environment.
Given the different nature of the technology to be managed in an IT environment specific functionality needs to be available for these domains. However a consolidated view on the status of the IT environment as a whole as well as the dependencies between the different IT components is mandatory. As an example when an application is not available it is important to know if the application itself is causing the disruption, the server that the application is running on or the switch that the server is connected to is causing the issue. Compare this with the dashboard of your car. Under the hood different probes and tools are used to monitor the car’s engine, tires, door, etc. but the dashboard consolidates and presents the information in an intuitive and understandable way. For actual maintenance and repair the most appropriate tools are used for the particular parts. In IT management this is not different.
Network device-, server-, UPS- and like for example storage-device hardware are vendor specific and are managed and monitored by vendor specific tools. The network infrastructure, server OS and application in general are monitored by more generic monitoring systems. Never the less it is important to understand the relationships and dependencies between the different components and the status of these components.
Visualization of the availability of a business service with integrated network, server and application monitoring leveraging HP Operations Manager and Rubik SDM.

To be able to easily integrate the different inputs from the monitoring tools Rubik has developed a Service Driven Management solution or in brief SDM. Rubik SDM automatically generates views of the managed environment including the dependencies and provides the integrated view of the status of the IT environment as a whole in an intuitive way, like the dashboard in the car. Additionally relations between business services and the IT environment are automatically created and visualized. More detailed information of SDM.
The main domains of proactive monitoring and management are:
- Network and infrastructure management
- Server hardware management
- Server OS and application management
- Alerting and Notification Solutions
Rubik provides the required knowledge, services, products, best practices and own developed solutions to effectively design, implement, support and optionally managed an effective true proactive management solution for your organization!
